When your friend asks you to help her build a reverse hourglass at Burning Man, the only thing you can really say is “Yes”.

Built at the Box Shop in Bayview, Chronosydra was a 11’ tall hourglass with a 10’ by 10’ footprint. I ran the fundraising campaign, designed, fabricated and fulfilled all perk orders and helped fabricate the piece, from metalworking to chemically fusing acrylic to soldering LEDs. A reverse hourglass meant that we filled it with water and the “sand” was plastic pellets with a density less than that of water, so they would float upwards.

The piece represents the build up of Burning Man in infrastructure, individuals and their energy, throughout the week as a temporary city.
